Microsoft seems to be doing an open beta for windows 7. i gave them some info and they gave me a download link and a product key. the download is a 2.4ish gig dvd image that you simply burn and boot from to install like any other OS. the install process is like vista and fairly simple. i did this on my laptop as i dont use it for a whole lot and its my 2nd best computer. so far just after booting you get the impression its another vista os, but i believe it is much better than that. items i hated about vista, such as going through hoops to get to anything you actually need seem to have gone away for the most part. the task bar has some nice features built into it or simple right click, properties can change it back to older versions. i havent been able to test everything, but sofar its like 20 times better than vista. even starts up faster with extra crap not running every few seconds. supposedly this beta is further along than any other windows beta they released, much closer to the release state.
