For months I been trying to figure out how to make ntbackup work. I have a customer where I set it up. I gone into remote assist (citrix) and tried several ways but never got it to schedule properly by itself.

Finally today, like the dummy I am, I finally figured it out. I went into my shutdown schedule and noticed that I have the Run field filled and also Start field filled in. But when I setup ntbackup, in the wizard, it did not automatically put in the start field which should have been c:\windows\system32. Lo and behold it worked.

Now I want you to know that I have read over 50 different requests and answers from people on the web with the same problem and no one referred to the fix. I really feel stupid that I finally figured it out today.

If you go to windows.com they have several explanations on how to setup ntbackup, but no explanation showing that you have to put in, manually, the start field. I guess they figure you should already know how scheduling works.

I guess that is how ones learn, it is by doing.

im not quite sure what "NTBackup" is, but if your talking about system restore i found a script that you can put into your startup folder and it creates 1 system restore every day your computer is on. it has saved me form at least 1 virus already and the only drawback is maybe an extra 10 second load time on startup of your computer.

but ntbackup is probably something else so maybe zander knows, he usually knows that stuff.

It is the internal backup program in xp, vista, and windows 2000. It is located in C:/windows/system32/ntbackup.exe

I have been using the Amahi Home server for almost a year now and love it. Although I am a Linux fanatic, I still haven't quite figured out how to program yet, so I found a way I could help with the project. I wrote a few how-to's for Amahi, and it just so happens I have one to cover this, except it saves to a networked Linux home server, so your settings will be different.

**Sorry, it may be too late, but I still hope it helps.
