I connected to a customer so darn easy and fixed all his issues. I cannot tell you how easy it was. This is a beta test software. I don't have any idea what the cost would be when it comes out as a product. They have two pieces of software.
1) gotoassistexpress (which I used)
2) gotoassist (which is for a help desk and servers)
I have another thread called Remote Assist where Yomama had a discussion with me on a piece of free shareware. I could not figure out that software for the life of me. Citrix gotoassistexpress was like "Set it and Forget it".:hitit:

the VNC we were talking about is actually really freaking easy... though i figured out the hard way that unless you change the default port and make things not so simple, it is possible to get hacked. i wouldnt be surprised if you could get hacked through that software as well. from my quick research, it seems like it is a service you pay for and others fix your computer. for me i want to be able to access my own computer from any other computer so if my research is correct, this isnt what i'd be wanting.

I have so many questions about VNC, I don't understand even what you are supposed to download. I would be very appreciated if you could help me. Could we talk on Skype about it?
I thought with XP professional you would be able to access you computer from other machines. I purchased XP professional thinking it was Remote Assist (which it was not), but it is only, I thought, accessing your own machine from another.
Is what you describing "Remote Desktop"? http://http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/default.mspx

xp pro comes with remote desktop. You have to activate it by going to your system properties, clicking the "remote" tab, and checking "allow other computers to access this device" (or something like that).
Then you can just bring up remote desktop on another windows machine (start -> accessories -> somewhere in there) type in the ip of the machine you want into, and hit ok. You will need to have an account With a password setup on the machine you are trying to access with rdp.
if you are trying to access your computer at home from the internet, you have to have your router forward port 3389 to the internal ip of the computer you want to access.

take off the first http:// on it and get this (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/default.mspx) that is remote desktop but i want it so i can control the computer as if i was right in front of it and not under a different login/password but the same user, that is why i do like VNC as it does what i want.
first off make sure you have both the server portion (computer you want to connect and access into, an example is my desktop at home) and the client version (computer you want to use to make this connection, example: my laptop while at school) This will take you to the free download page (http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1/index.html)
On the server computer, make sure the correct ports are forward (look up on google if you are unsure, this has to do with your router and firewall(s))
make sure it is running on the server (white VNC icon near clock); double click that icon
on the default tab i use VNC Password Authentication, hit configure and type your password.
for safty sake (avoids random people trying to hack your VNC) i would change the default port which can be found as the top setting under the connections tab (must change port fowarding if required as well)
under the inputs tab, you can set what you wish the client connecting to be able to change, i usually have all but the bottom checked allowing the client and server to work at the same time
if you are working from a mediocre connection (less then 1Mbit upload) id recomend going to the desktop tab and in the while connected box, check the remove wallpaper and background pattern. this is also handy because other then the white VNC icon turning black while a user is connected, the background goes blue
that's it for server side
Client side just needs the viewer installed.
when ran, it will ask for server. inter the IP and Port of the server you are connecting to. for encryption, i let server choose.
after you hit ok, it may say things like generating encryption code etc etc.. just hit ok, it only does that the first time you connect to that server.
enter the password you set on the server and a new box should appear holding your desktop of the server.
one thing that sux is when your servers resolution is 1680x1050 like mine, you have to scroll around :( or hit F8 and go to options, then scaling and scale to fit.
hope that helps you out some. im going to bed, work in a few hours, ill make a better guide at a later date, check out their help section here (http://www.realvnc.com/support/documentation.html)
Night all and good luck
