Well i have changed a few things around with lots of help from Zander trying to get my computer to the correct stock settings before i attempt some overclocking. In my testing, i checked 3dMark06 system details and found something i dont understand or perhaps different then what i think it is. The way i see it, the Core and Memory clocks in ATI tools should be what my video card is running at (stock clocks for a stock 8800GTX and came up as default), but when i look at 3dMark06 (http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/8540/blabo9.jpg) it came up with: VGA Memory Clock 337.5 MHz and VGA Core Clock 108.0 MHz. According to newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150232&Tpk=XFX%2b8800%2bGTX)(which i bought it from stock speeds should be 600/1900

My questions are:
Is this correct? i would figure they should be the same but im not 100% sure
What does it actually mean? if i increase the speed via ATI tool that would be overclocking correct?

I too have noticed inaccurate reporting of clocks by 3DMARK06. Back in the day when I had a X3220(q6600 basically).

My OC was
8x425=3.4

Says I was running 3825mhz. Yea, unless my math is off.. It thought I was using the default 9x multi(9x425=3825).

EDIT: When viewing GPU-z please note your card downclocks when its not being pushed hard to save power.

It could have ran it wrong because there are two options in your bios you need to disable for it to read the accurate mhz ur cpu is going. ill have the names of them soon. forgot what there called.

and 3dmark06 doesn't even read yoru memory type correctly either there fucking stupid.

and yes... increasing the speed via ATI tool, you will be overclocking your vid card ...

thanks for the link/tool Zander kinda handy.

you say it overclocks but i have heard that software overclocking isnt as safe or as good as a hardware overclock in the bios etc... does that apply to video cards or just CPUs etc

what would you consider safe clocks for a XFX 8800GTX with stock air cooling?

ok well this is kinda a weird question that i was hoping i would never have to ask....

During my POST (the last 2 restarts) my raid controller (built into motherboard) says one of my RAID0 HDDs has "error(s) occurring." the computer still boots and it was restarted regularly last time, though the time before was a computer freeze while alt+tabbing out of games etc with a push and hold of the power button...
i basically only have my OS (only takes a few hours to re-do) and games installed on that raid so if it does break i wont die. (im smarter then that ;) )

Thanks for the OCing info, and for the Hard drive problem sorry for not asking a question i guess its a .. what the hell should i do? but i ran (though windows) the error checking on both my hard drives and it came up with nothing. ill give the command prompt a try when i get back.. going to a funeral in a few hours...

at any rate, thanks again.

ok, so my friend was over (MetalWeaver for those that know) and he was bragging about his 3.6 (Q6600 just like mine) and so we were messing around with overlcoking and stuffs.

from what i can tell optimum settings for my setup would be
FSB 400MHz
Multi 9x
RAM 4-4-4-12
Vcore 1.4v
RAM 2.2v

at that setup, my cpu should be 3.6GHz, ram at 800MHz but 1:1 and decent timings

posted and ran at 8x multi but i changed it to 9x and yeah... didnt post currently taking my computer apart (hating asus right now, jumper AND cmos battary are under my video card worst placement ever!)

EDIT: well im back to default ish lol... wait a sec... doh ZANDER MY THRODDLING IS BACK :( stupid reset of CMOS
EDIT2: lol found where that item is... now back to how i like default
EDIT3:
alright so im back in the game at
9x multi
333 bus speed
(total of 3.0GHz)
ram is at 5-5-5-18 (default for me but bla)
FSB : DRAM = 5:8 with a 534.4MHz frequency

3.0 is just fine OC for me though how hot is to hot... i was pushing 55 at full load for 5 minutes and idle at like 36ish

BLA BLA BLA Screen shot:
my only concern is temps getting to high.... that was only a few minutes of prime95...

Your temperature is fine... if it gets near 70 than I would get concerned..... throttling should kick in around 60-65

.. about the jumpers being in a bad spot: I made a 'jumper extender' sort of.. its just 3 wires that i attach to the jumpers and it goes to a toggle switch.. makes life alot easier..

ok, thanks. i've read for my specific CPU SLACR G0, the temp that it basically dies at is 72.5C or something so seeing it at 55-60 started to worry me and i didnt want to walk away and come back with a burnt chip :(

humm, that doesnt sound like to bad an idea though i really hate screwing stuff up and with my luck i would do just that. lol i might take a weekend maybe a week or 2 from now and see if i can get taht 3.6 GHz. anyone know what caused my failure on my last attempt?

It's unlikely you are gonna get 3600 stable for 24/7 use with that zalman cooler. Also, you're gonna need more than 1.4 vcore(which is even less after vdroop).

OT:
I love my Maximus Extreme it has reset cmos button on back by all the USB ports and what not. Even when I put in a bad overclock it recovers w/o have to reset anyway. Love it.

I have an LG VX 8600 and i wish to get better signal on it. it has an internal antenna which i believe is the major problem as my friends will get reception where i do not. is there any quick fix i can do or a simple mod to help me out?

thanks

for me service menu is hit menu, then hit 0, it asks for code (0 0 0 0 0 0) then opens the menu.
im not sure what to change to increase the antenna capacity. oh well im almost done with school so ill work on final crap and mess with it when im done. i did that *228 so we will see if that helps some, i havent done that since i got my phone ;) forgot what *###s it was.

thx again
