I'll eventually post a score, but I figure it'll wait until I finally put my ram back up to default speed. Long story short, my ram wasn't as compatible with my mobo as ASUS claimed and the only way to get Windows (or any OS, stupid fanboys) to be able to use the ram was by cutting it to nearly half speed. I figure if I actually stop being lazy, flash my bios and do that, a lot of my lag issues will disappear.

Virtual3dmarks tells me "N/A Virtual3DMarks"

I'd guess it didn't run because my graphics card is integrated and therefore terrible.

CPU - Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2050 @ 1.60GHz @ 1596MHz ---- it's dual core

aaaand why is it such a big file download??? i'll edit with score later.

because it my look like a movie when its playing (theoretically) but it is basically a game running on max detail. all the processes and shading that happen in a game such as crysis occur and that tests how good your computer is. good detail = big file size.

im running it now... i was running on a higher resolution, lets see if the "default" resolution changes anything...

Im all air coolded and stock:

Yeah. I'll wait till the price gets a tad more reasonable before I get a second. That, and until I arguably "need" the upgrade.

7103 3dmarks @ 1680x1050//8xAA//Anisotropic with every test :D <-- Had just finally put my memory back to default speed so I wanted to test system stability. stock intel 3.0GHz (E6850), nVidia 8800 GTX, asus p5n32-e...I've been out of the loop for awhile..

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/9467/3dmark06awe0.jpg

back when I first had this rig with SLI, I believe it bumped the score just over 14k.. and when the system was oc'd to 3.8GHz on refrigerated water cooling.. and the 8800's clocked to 645 / 945 ... the score was mid 17k's .. unfortunately.. I blew one of the 8800's and have not replaced it yet... oh yeah.. before you ask.. its a B-G0 stepping sla9u on the processor.. they should hit 4.0GHz no problem, but I got a bad pick out the bunch... some guys even got them to 5.0GHz... it may be my mobo does not supply enough voltage to the memory, havent done thr droop mod yet..I'll get back to it someday and figure it out...

as for now.. I got out of the OC'ing...for awhile anyways.. it is to addicting, kinda like overenchanting weapons in L2.. but this cost real world money.. not adena :) .. and keeping up with the best of the best was taking wayyyy tooo much ...

actually.. I just play games on my lappy in the living room.. I think this is the first time I fired up my main rig in about 2 months...

( just a heads up ... I've been working with a couple guys to get 3dmark06 to run on Linux... wait till you see the score of the ps3 cells processor on 3dmark06.. the cpu score will beat the overall scores of any of my comps ... hopefully they will be successful within the month )

This was from that thread as well...

Well, my brand of RAM is still dysfunctional with my mobo, so I had to drop it back down to 533...thing that pisses me off is that it was a noticeable god damn difference to performance so now I know what I'm missing...

*edit*

Flashed my BIOS from 0901 to 1401. Moved my ram back to stock speed at 800mhz. No stability issues--happy panda time is now.:th_alc:

So what the heck is #3DMARK06? I have been able to play half life 1 and 2 but not the new half life (which is an extension of half life 2)

I expect to start buying parts for a new machine in April. So you guys are going to help me pick the parts and keep the price as low as possible and keep me on a budget.

Ok I went to the website you recommended and I found myself 1/2 of the way to Recommended systems. I played Half life 2 and thought the graphics was really great. So for me, this system is ok for now. Why upgrade if it ain't broken? I play DOD and it is just fine.

I figured I would be showcased as a poor system when I listed it. But it works for now.

Jeeze, you should be on top. 3DMark06 is multithreaded(favors a quad).

Do this, and watch temps.
multi 8x
fsb 400
ram timings 4-4-4-12
vcore 1.4v
ram 2.2v
NB 1.35v
fsb termination 1.38v

Your under a Tuniq, correct? You should be able to do that.

as of now im only stock. zander helped me get my ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148070) correctly to stock.. seems auto was putting it at 800MHz timings defaulted to 5-5-5-18 and my ram runs slightly hotter then standard because of LEDs in it (sorry wanted some active lights in my case lol) i have a Zalman heatsink (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019) but it seems to be running nicely.. havent seen my CPU over 50c but havent tested in the summer yet (built in fall last year) idles around 34c

i still consider myself a newb to over clocking but im ganna take zanders advice for now and let it sit at default because it was under clocked and see if i have any problems then i may consider some over clocking.. possibly 3GHz

my multi is set to 9 right now though, zander told me how to lock it in my BIOS (was throttling from 6 to 9)

ill let you know when im ready for 3GHz ;)

few more questions:
Zander, about how long should i let my parts burn in for? and do you recommend prime95 until then or what?
What would i do for OCing my Vid Card? (XFX 8800GTX) i hear ATI tools is useful
any other info you guys want/need?

EDIT: well i got ATI Tool 0.26 and was running the artifact scanning (stability/100% GPU usage for burnin) and i was wondering what the max temp i should get with it is. i use to have riva tuner which i only used to set my fan speed to 100% on my vid card.. but i uninstalled that a while ago and the auto temp control that came with nvidia ..well id rather it just be on 100% but its retarted and a known bug.

Arg, sry I forgot about the divider. I was trying to recall some of my settings for 24/7 with my old quad for 400x8(a nice mild OC).

I remember running my Ballistix 8500 at 800 3-3-3-8. I swear by that RAM. Now only If I could afford their DDR3.

YO_MA_MA

one think that has always confused me was RAM. obviously the lower the latency/timings the faster the faster it responds but in order to have lower timings i see lower speeds like 800MHz. on newegg the lower speed ram is usually $30-40 cheaper which cheaper usually isnt as good but then i see over clockers with 800MHz RAM most of the time. anyone care to explain this better for me?

TheTryHard
April 6th, 2008, 11:17 PM
Ok, sold the E8400 and replaced it with a q6700. There were several reasons I choose not to go with a 45nm quad. First, was price. The q9450 was more than I wanted to pay. I skipped the q9300, because of its 7.5 multi. There were other reasons, I think... Oh well. It's done now.

So yeah, no WC'ing yet. I'm still waiting on my Maximus Extreme to get back from ASUS. Then I'll set the LCS up.

q6700 9x400=3600. Not bad for the first day(an hour of tweaking) with only a air cooler.

13,201 is my new score:)

Anything new is always more intensive. Most people are just gimmicky and overblown in their reactions. I've stopped caring about the whole "Vista hate" garbage since it doesn't mean jack-shit to me (oh noes, 15 less fps when you're running a 10 year old game as your "benchmark") and the whole drama of it is unnecessary to become involved with.

Now, the "Mac vs. PC" commercials...those succeed at irritating me to no end. Despite all of the "xbox vs. ps3" raging that has fanbois all over, you will never see a more sickeningly elitist group of assholes than "hardcore" Mac users (ironically though, the "real" "hardcore" Mac users [non-Fanboy, essentially] are actually pretty acceptable for confabulation).

So, Bestbuy had VisionTek 3870 OC Editions on sale for $129.99. I couldnt resist, so I picked up one for some crossfire goodness. I made a run all stock and got 15k. Then just after that I did something really dumb and killed my new VT card. I was gonna exchange it for another one, but my BB was out. Had to get a refund...

Damn, I was so ready for a 19k run. It'll have to wait another week or so.
