Ok... so I've got 2 playing setups. My wifes machine is about 8 months old and has adequate hardware to play any game I want, including hidden.

However, my laptop, which I use at the firestation when I'm working, is not up to par. It's 5 years old and I have to reduce almost all video settings to their minimums, otherwise the vid card overheats and the laptop quits.

As it stands, I can't see the hidden at all. Even on derelict, I can't see him against the wallpaper. I don't see any thing and only know he's around by listening to the sounds of him slashing or stabbing me.

That being said... if there was 1 setting which I should set high to allow me to more adequately see the hidden, which setting would that be?

Take a crt monitor and hook it up to your laptop. the crt will show better then a 5year old laptop lcd monitor.

Unfortunately... :-P
I've got a dell 8500, but have a hacked video card from an 8600. Since it runs so much hotter in my case, and the heat sink is directly above the CRT prot, I kindof melted the solder around the CRT port. Alas, no CRT for me.
