SAD as it is.. 45K memory.. that was alot at one time.... My first computer was a 16K extended color basic from radio shack.. Original COCO with a chicklet keyboard.. Tape drive.. we had no clue what floppy's were alittle lone 5 1/4 inch.. I think they had 8 inch back then...... wasnt for about a few years later that I could afford to get floppy drives.

Quote from Bill Gates from a ways back:
"No one will need more than 637 kb of memory for a personal computer."
can vista even display the word "vista" with less then 637 kb of memory used?

Silver, I know how much you love Linux.
I'm upgrading to Beryl this weekend on my Ubuntu 7.10 partition.

No prob. It'll be a few days, I'm in the beta for Amahi Home Server, so I've been spending a lot of time with Fedora 7 and Amahi. As of right now, I'm not sure if I want to mess with my dual-boot until I get a bigger drive to back it up to. But when I do, I'll post screen shots. The one I can't wait to see is how it works with CS and Steam in Wine while playing with the 3D desktop changer.
**edit**
I finally got fed up with Amahi and installed Ubuntu Server 7.10. It has a setup option during install for a "one-click" install of Samba (Windows File and Print Sharing using SMB). I also installed Webmin, so I can remotely access the server.
The problem I had with Amahi was that is wants to take over as the DHCP server and create a domain. I liked the idea of a domain and having a server running DHCP instead of my router. I disabled DHCP a while back and added static routes. The problem, though, was that when Amahi took the role of DHCP, I lost wireless connectivity for my daughter's wireless card. Eventually I'll hard wire it, but for now it's easier to use wireless. I plan on trying again with a different setup, using a Linksys wired router and a wireless access point for the wireless connections in the house. But that is a while away.

I am having problems with the nVidia Linux drivers, but Ubuntu 7.10 ships with Compiz, which has some of the same features of Beryl.
Question, how often do you use your server and why do you use it? The more services you enable on a Linux server, the more vulnerable you become. Any GUI, like Gnome or KDE, reads from port 0, so that's why most Linux servers don't use one. If it's only for file and print sharing, you can use Ubuntu desktop 7.10, which comes standard with Samba and Compiz.
I just finished setting up my Ubuntu server (my daughter get a new PC for Christmas, so I got her old 1.5Ghz AMD. I added a 160GB IDE h/d I had sitting around, so I'm working on a software RAID with my 160GB WD portable drive. Once I get that working, I'll be moving more of my files from my Vista to my server so I can increase my Ubuntu partition. Right now I've only got 10GB for my Ubuntu side, and I'm about to make it my main OS. When I complete the switch and get STEAM and CS working in Wine, I'll remove Compiz and add Beryl and let you see some recordings. I found a program for Linux that will make a video of my desktop while I'm working, so I'll use it once everything is set and upload it to my webserver.
I'll keep ya posted.:biggrin1:
