94.56% of all leet steam players have no idea what their SteamID is or how to find it. (or so it seems) This will tell you exactly what the SteamID is and how to find your own personal SteamID.

Your steam id is not a word, name, login, etc. You normally do not see it in everyday gaming. The actual SteamID follows the following format. STEAM_0:x:xxxxxxx where x = some number. The following are some examples.

STEAM_0:0:1337
STEAM_0:0:2391234
STEAM_0:1:1834244

The following are NOT valid SteamID's:
My1337LoginName
bunnie
marco@polo.com
STEAM_234:23:3040535
STEAM_1:0:xxxxxx (at least not yet anyways)

Ok, now that you know what your SteamID should (and should not) look like, Here is how you can find out what your very own personal steam id is.

Step 1: Launch any HL/HL2 game and connect to ANY Internet based Dedicated Server. A perfect example would be to launch Counter Strike and connect to one of our CS Servers.
Step 2: GoTo Options -> General Tab -> Advanced. Check "show console". close/apply settings.
Step 3: Press the "`" or "~" (same key) to bring up your console.
Step 4: Type "status" (and hit return)

25 usersOh wow, look at all that info.
Step5: Find the row that has your name. (we will use bl00dym1lkm@n | 2F4F for this example)
#28 "bl00dym1lkm@n | 2F4F" 10066 STEAM_0:0:3625857 5 26:02 77 0 199.227.210.117:27005Step6: Find the portion of that line that looks like a SteamID (if you have troubles recognizing a SteamID, please reread the begining of this post)
STEAM_0:0:3625857Step 7: highlight and copy (yes you can copy by right clicking) your SteamID and then paste it wherever you want.

Congratulations!!!!! You have learned your actual SteamID. This is the magical little ID that allows serverops (like myself) to give admin privs, and ban accounts from connecting.

ok, so you may be wondering what all those different numbers and data means when you type status, here is an explanation of each item.

#28 "bl00dym1lkm@n | 2F4F" 10066 STEAM_0:0:3625857 5 26:02 77 0 199.227.210.117:27005

#28 = Your slotID on the server at that time. It changes each time you join, but only 1 player at a time has that unique number. It is the way the server can easily keep track of current playing players.
"bl00dym1lkm@n | 2F4F" = Your current playername
10066 = Your userID, This is an additional way that the server keeps track of players. it is cleared out each time the server is restarted, but does keep track of players during map changes. Not as permanent as steam_ids, but better then the slotId mentioned above
STEAM_0:0:3625857 = Your magical SteamID!!!!!!
5 = How many frags you have (kills)
26:02 = Time you have been connected to the server
77 = Your current latency (ping)
0 = Amount of packetloss between you and the server
199.227.210.117:27005 = your IP address and port (the port number is after the ':')
