good luck....

steam has basically screwed over lanning for people that don't own the game.

ok i own the game... but i cant figure out how to load the game without pissing off steam.

say im at a lan, would like to play hidden to show my friends, i would have to connect to steam via internet in order to play right? i own all of it yet i cant single player if im not on the internet... thats gay.

EDIT: if i could find a program that allows me to play offline, i can just copy my steam folder to others computers and run it on theirs and we can LAN... but how to play steam offline is the real question.

if you can start the game, just click "create menu" in the main hidden screen.

you can play and those that own steam:source can play (given that they are logged into steam)

If you want to add some bots so you can start a round, type bot_add in console. they won't do hardly anything, just run to a corner and hide, but you can atleast have a round running.

you can always run the tutorial as well.

That damn thing never works for me, says some nonsense about a file library being missing then hidden crashes. Or it's the other way around, don't recall.

(given that they are logged into steam)

thats the part i wanna fix.... :( though im getting a little better at being the hidden, i have this problem of getting stuck on railings and such after i hit a guy once or twice and try and run... then i die :(

i have set up lan hl servers but have not tryed hl2
but i know u can open the games without steam but can never find any servers unless u search lan
also ur computer will have to be a static ip on ur network to be the server host and also have ports to it so they can connect threw the router
i need to get hl2 this game sounds like fun

when you are logged into steam, go into offline mode. then shutdown. if you are lucky, when you start it back up, you will still be in offline mode and able to play the steam games locally.
