well, my water pump died today. Which kinda sucks since there arn't any computer stores around that carry them :(. I've got one on order, but it won't be here till tuesday.
The up side is that I'm getting a temp/fluid level monitor with the replacement. so thats kinda nice.
But yeah, going from 34'c to 59 in less then a min is not kewl. I'm glad I was around and heard it stop. (I'm sure my comp would have shut itself down, but I'd rather not find out)

ouch glad nothing bad happened and your machine is alright. one nice thing about air colling, if one fan stops, you have 3 others still going. but water cooling is still cool.
hope to see you up and running soon.

I have my new pump in, and i have a neat little useless temp probe and waterlevel monitor lcd for my comp now too.
I did some playing around today, and i hit the 3.0 mark on my comp. so far its running stable too. (we'll see how long that lasts)
reran the 3d06 bench and it jumped up to 11256. (was at 10k something last time.
http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=11368772
I'm now at 25% oc.
my vista cpu rating went from 5.5 to 5.7. now my overal is 5.6 because my hdds are too slow. guess i gotta get some 10k raptors in raid 0 now :P
The only downside to ocing to 3.0ghz is that my cpu now runs at 36'c idle and jumps between 8'-11' very quickly under any decent load. The good side is that after running a burn in program for a half hour, the cpu temp stayed just under 50'c. So I'm happy.

hey squirrl, im running stock speeds on everything, no OC and my 3dmark06 score was 11479. i'm running XP, think thats the difference?
i have quad core 2.4GHz 2Gigs of RAM, 8800GTX on windows XP.
i ran the tests on 1280x1024 ress, no anti aliasing, filtering optimal, vs_profile and ps_profile were 3_0, non of the rendering options were checked, and ran 1 test.
so whats up?

sorry for the delayed response, been busy with homework etc.
honestly im scared =P never overclocked anything before and my last 3dmark06 was 11934 ... ill easily break 12k if i overclock. the stock speed on it is only 2.4 but 4x processors makes up for it.. supposidly you can get up to 3.4/3.5 off air cooling and my case is a freaking wind tunnel. ill probably just go to 3.0 but ive never OCed before and scared.
im having a lan this weekend so friday ill see how my friends go about it and how to OC stuff. vid card has a built in OC program i might mess but first i need a program that tells me accurate temperatures other then the bios (with no load on anything) any suggestions?
thx for the feedback, still awaiting zanders reply.

How 'bout some pics of your hardware? Also, a screenie of the first tab on cpu-z(I wanna know what stepping you got).

got B stepping revision "G0" as you or someone else recommend, was like $10 extra but if it runs cooler its worth it. at this second im messing with video card clocks (not voltages yet) and seeing what i can get on 3dmark06. had to download something to get my vid card fan to run at 100% because there is a known bug in ntune that wouldn't remember the settings on next reboot.
ill get the shots when its done, maybe 3 minutes or so. i broke 12k off the first OC so im happy. whats the best way to go about OCing the quad core? im guessing in the BIOS but im a noobie at this stuff so help me out =P
PS: i love how we high-jacked his thread, should we make a new one for over-clocking?
//edit heres a picture:
i noticed the multiplier jumps from 6x to 9x and the volts go from 1.128 to 1.200 when im doing something (probably cus in bios its set to auto)
doing 1 last test with core @650 mem@975 then im going to bed. long day tomorrow, school (tests), work, lan party i need to set up/host and its ganna last untiil sat night at least... ganna be a long day...

You have either C1E, EIST, or SpeedStep enabled in your BIOS.
What this feature does is that it lowers your multiplier when you are idle, and will jump back up to max overclock when you are playing a game or loading a program.
Always OC your CPU via the BIOS:thumb:

don't use ntune to oc your system. It saves its settings inside windows, which loads during windows startup and if it saves a setting that causes your computer to bluescreen on startup, you are screwed. Break out the os install cd and start over.

not bad at all =P glad to hear your still around zander. i hear the "slacr" (with a "c") models are supposedly the good ones - which is what i got. i guess they re-did it and it runs cooler at stock giving it more room to overclock...could be fun.
i figured it was best to overclock in the bios but i couldnt find anywhere to change the speeds other then voltage for my videocard. i probably just overlooked it but whatever. i found the cpu stuff but didnt wanna mess with it for the time being. ill probably just put it all back to stock and play it safe an not go over the +3 safe enchant lvl...
talk to you guys later.. got crap to do for school now :(

so it does say nvidia on it... the whole "ATI TOOL" led me to believe its for them alone. thx tryhard
/edit dont hit the "find max core" button... after a few minutes i got a bluescreen >.> said it was clocked at 663... stock is 600.... oops. temps went to about 67 C under the max load it had with 1200 fps. i wonder... whats the max safe temp off air cooling for a 8800gtx, (googles)
answer: from other forums says that it can get in the 80s and still function fine. the slowdown in the card starts over 100C (i really dont want it that high)
i'm currently idleing at 51C (GPU) and ~35 (CPUs)
testing loads now: (68 GPU) ~52 (CPUs) *note* the cpu tool i had only test 2cpus... i figure it might be like 54 at max though cus other 2 cpus were still like 39-41 as you can see in the screen shot text.
lol turned them both off and like 10 seconds later my cpu was back to idle and gpu is 3 degrees off lol <3 my cases' airflow.
