I've been searching for Cisco stuff on the web. I just bought a 2507 router on eBay for $25 and now I need 2 more. I also need 3 switches. I know one of the routers has to support frame relay, and I'd like to stick with 2500 series cause their cheap. Any ideas? I'm looking at 1-2916 switch and 2-1924 or 1912 switches. Would that be good enough for my lab? It's just for CCNA hands-on practice. Some website said that a 2514 router could be used for a home router, does anyone have experience with this? And lastly, I'm now up to 4 old desktops, PIII 600Mhz - 833Mhz, all with old ATX boards. My wife would kill me if they stay in their cases. I'm looking at some used 1U cases, since all I need is 1 riser card for NIC. I'm looking at some with no P/S's. Will my P/S's from the old cases fit the 1U cases, or should I use 2U, or will they even mount? My idea is a combo MCSE/A / CCNA lab, with one monitor, a KVM, and just Telnetting through the routers, using the old PC's for 2 Win XP and 2 Win2K3 setups. I may change one of the servers later for a UNIX or Linux-flavored server. Will this work?
***edit: I have an old Compaq 400Mhz laptop for my console. What does Linux have that compares to HyperTerminal in MS? I think I have an old copy of Win 98 somewhere, but I kinda want to use the laptop for a Damn Small Linux setup.***
I have simulators that came with my school books, but I'd like some hands-on separate from my LAN.
