I think we need a thread entitled "Vista sucks". Someone should put that in the general section of the forum. Just a place for all the win vista bashing.
You asked for it, you got it :)

Whether you like it or not, Vista's here. Your average user is going to Vista with almost every new computer purchase. And with Longhorn coming out, some companies may follow. The average user would rather the flashy GUI over the old CLI. Mayo comes in a jar, but why not use the cute little squeeze bottle.

Linux has come a long way, and I've already feel in love with Ubuntu. I d/l Fedora, but I haven't tried it yet. I turned one of my old boxes into a Ubuntu server. I haven't set up Active Directory yet, so I'm not sure how this one will work with it. But it is a very simple setup for LAMP.

I plan on quitting my job in about 6 mths. By then I should have A+, Net+, and the new MCITP, from 70-622, and MCTS, from 70-620, and working on my MSCA. I need the Vista experience in order to find a job.

Now the bashing begins.
Vista is okay. It's no where near as secure as Linux. 99.9% of malware is designed for the behemoth MS. And if media is your pleasure, MS may end up being essential. http://www.2frag4fun.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=158
The annoying pop-up for running programs, its an attempt, I think, to keep you out of the kernel, just like the sudo command in Linux. And the nVidia 7300 I put in is keeping my Vista score at 3.0 while mem and cpu is at 5.0. Vista is a HOG.

Ubuntu seems to be pretty good so far. I want to use a dual-boot on my main with Ubuntu/Vista. Or maybe just run XP as a virtual inside Ubuntu. And Linux seems to be making headway as a media center.

Enough of my rant, LET THE BASHING BEGIN!!!!!:fight:

***note: if this needs to be moved to hardware, I apologize.***

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. MS is raping you. Best Buy wants $399 for Vista Ultimate full and $229 for Vista Ultimate upgrade. A guy I work with, his neighbor is a recruiter for MS, and I got a full version for $45. I just can't resell it at a higher price and it must go with the computer I installed it in.

Almost all Linux forms, like Fedora and Ubuntu, are FREE!!!!!!

Translation: OEM copy, same thing I got. You didn't get anything special.

Further: Fail.

Vista is okay. It's no where near as secure as Linux. 99.9% of malware is designed for the behemoth MS.

Observation: Of course it is less "secure." One, when such a massive amount of the market is saturated by MS products, it is only logical that said products would be the most targetted. If you want to hit a target, it's much easier and simpler to use the scattershot method as opposed to pinpoint precision (e.g. shit all over the place and hope you get lucky). Two, being passively "secure" is a moronic concept at best...how can you be doing all this code work and not know this already?

Final: Yar! Phear my fake arguing!

lol hooked up my friends brand new computer works very nice, was a $4k computer. vista was on it BLA!. loaded all the games and such and when i went to install alcohol for a few more games i was blue screening for 30+ minutes straight, i almost gave up on the piece o crap.
vista has this wonderfully annoying feature that you MUST CLICK ALLOW on every damn action you make. open control pannel (click allow) open display settings (click allow) change ANY setting (must click allow) play any game (allow) etc etc and in my 1 minute search for a way to turn it off i didnt find any. there probably is a way but its not my computer and i dont care.

when i do purchase my next computer (hopefully around Christmas time) i think ill turn my current desktop into a linux server. ive been looking at Ubuntu Beryl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC5uEe5OzNQ) because it looks really cool and its linux. ive downloaded the ubuntu part sofar ill get beryl once ive got ubuntu instaled. anyway off to shoot people in cs.

bye all (vista sux)

Its called UAC (User Acount Control) And I believe it is supposed to prevent unauthorized actions by hackers.

To disable it:
1.Open Control Panel.
2.Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".
3.Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.
4.Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
5.Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
6.In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
7.You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.
