I have a huge problem. I spilled soda on my laptop. I quickly turned the laptop upside down and pulled the battery. BTW, it's a Toshiba Satellite 1100-S101. Anywho, I took it apart. There is a shield between the keyboard and the mobo, so no soda made it to the mobo. I double checked myself twice during reassembly, and I wrote down what screws and connections went where. But now when I boot, I got the Toshiba BIOS screen for about 10 seconds, then nothing. Now it won't so anything. If it helps, when I connect the charger, the LED does come on, but nothing else. Any ideas besides a new one?

o snap :jeez:

possibly pulling the battery caused a problem in another part of the computer, such as hard drive or RAM. possible test, "borrow" someones laptop hard drive and plug it in. see if it recognizes and boots.

if your seeing the BIOS, and able to do stuff, then more then likely the mobo is fine. check in the BIOS and look for disk drives and ram etc. make sure they are being seen.

thats all i can think of for now, other im sure have more ideas. good luck

i spilled water on my old laptop while i was playing cs... it beeped then shut off. ummm.... yea... it got ruined and i ahd to get a new one. people say to turn it on it's side or blow it with a hair dryer from a good distance away. since you get to the bios screen, there may be hope. so... sorry to say, i can't help. gl though.

it's not the complete BIOS. When the lappy boots, the Toshiba Icon comes up, and before I can press F8 it shut down. It hasn't done anything since. Does anyone know where I can find the battery pinouts. I was going to pull the mobo battery, but it's soldered to the mobo. I thought it was odd that I can see the charge light when I hook up the charger, but nothing showing for the battery. And I checked the mobo. Is it like a plain jane circuit board where I could find a burnt spot on the back-side? Cause I looked forever and I can't find anything. I might be buying my wife a new lappy, so I'll take her's. Until then I have a P3 400 Mhz, so I'm running Xubuntu on it.

Also, for the h/d. I replaced it when I got it with an 80GB and I bought a case from tigerdirect for the old 20 to make it portable. I formatted the old 20 to FAT32 to share with no OS. Maybe I aughtta take that h/d and reinstall it to test it. Does that sound like a good plan, or should I smack it like Fonzy, just with a hammer :)

yeah, something got fried.

your only easy things to test on a laptop are ram and hdd. but if its not the ram, then your mobo is toasted somewhere.

since its not even finishing post, I'm fairly confident its not your hdd. about 50% sure its not your ram. It might be your keyboard is shorted out and causing post to fail, but i give that a 30% probability (try booting with the keyboard not attached. If its the problem, then your laptop will boot, but give an error that no keyboard detected (failure) )

from what you are explaining, I think your mobo took some damage.

I have removed the hard drive. Any ideas on how it should die?

It wouldn't even POST. But, anywho, I'm cleaning the h/d and using it for an external. I'm also robbing the memory and using it for my other lappy. You can have the other junk, if you have a shovel.
