Silver's is the only one I don't trounce... and that's only because of hardware incompatibilities that shouldn't exist. Granted, I haven't checked recent BIOS updates for my striker extreme, but I think the corsair ram is still bugged. Don't have the harddrives set up all the way for raid right now (Vista as a fresh install didn't like RAID 0+1, but it can be reinstalled eventually, I'm just too lazy right now), so my 1 TB of memory isn't all raid-configured.

There have been quite a few bios revisions lately for that board, if your not on 901 i suggest you at least upgrade to that, it fixes a huge ammount of problems, and the latest version 1102 specifically says it fixes memory compatibility.

My system isn't top of the line. I replaced my old set up when the motherboard decided to catch on fire when I wasn't home and make a nice little bonfire in my room. Fortunately my case was salvageable, but I had to do a bit of handiwork to get it back in running order again. Everything else was a total loss, including my desk, a DVD player, my MP3 player, my cellphone, and a good portion of my games which I happened to have placed on my desk while searching for something that day before I left for work. Total cost was nearly $8500 bucks in losses and which sucked slightly. Insurance refused to cover it saying it was an "act of god" which is a total load of shit. Unfortunately, I also lost several family heirlooms in the process too, as well as several incredibly rare and valuable war relics from WWII and prior.
Old setup:
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream
OCZ 450watt PSU
Asus G-7ZXE
Intel P4 3.20E Prescott
Soundblaster Live! X-Gamer (Old school shit right there)
2GB GeIL Valu-RAM
XFX 7800GTX
4x 250GB SATA HDDs
Logitech MX-518
Current build:
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream (the only survivor of the fire)
OCZ 450watt PSU
Asus A8N-E
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2Ghz
Audigy 2ZS
2GB GeIL Valu-RAM
eVGA 7800GT 256MB
Logitech MX-518
Headphones: Beyerdynamics DT770PRO (80ohm model)
Speakers: Pioneer VSX3700S Stereo Reciever w/ 2x Bose 301 Series II speaker units.
Laptop:
Dell 17" E1705/9400 Inspiron
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz
nVidia 7900GS 256MB
Audigy 2
2GB RAM
I have two other computers in my house whose stats are roughly the same as my current build.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to get a new box :) Nice Specs!
oh, is there going to be a prize for total volume vs weight in being the lightest? i think mine would win. (huge case, low weight) :) as for weight, I'm pretty sure my old desktop would win that one. if not, I'll put in a couple more hdds :P

There is no doubt, Zander will always win. He is an extreme machine guru. He's worked hard for it to.

May 15th, 2007, 08:45 AM
Well, he would lose the lowest weight-to-power contest due to the water cooling, at least. I would have gone with water cooling, but I have to move my machine around...800 miles in the next 4 months. Moving a water system isn't fun...and neither is having to deal with the leaks and air bubbles that show up because of it.

mine was about $2700 for case and everything in it. I still want to get a new monitor/keyboard and stuff, but i blew that part of the budget on my vid card. I should have a new monitor by time the lan party hits.

I have become the "geek" at work because our IT staff is in North Carolina. My boss had a laptop for his personal use and the company gave him a work one. It's a nice new Dell Latitude w/ Vista. He had some disks with Cummins engine manuals in .pdf form that he wanted on the desktop. He offered me his old laptop if I could do it because he said he spent more than 30 mins trying himself. He said he kept getting some error message. I went back to my box and saved with Adobe instead of moving the files. DONE. I told him how simple it was and he could keep his laptop, but he insisted.
So update:
Laptop - Toshiba Satellite 1100-S101
512 MB RAM
Ubuntu 7.04
If tired of Windows, try it. I love it so far, and if I had more memory, I could use VMWare to run a virtual Windows and play H/L.
